Parent Participation
We offer two parent participation classes: Classes run from September to June
3-day AM: Tuesday, Thursday, Friday 9:15am-11:45am
FULL for 2024-25
2-day AM: Monday, Wednesday 9:15am-11:45am
FULL for 2024-2025
In a parent participation preschool, parents are involved as administrators, as teacher assistants and as students of childhood development. The preschool is owned and operated as a non-profit, charity organization by the parents of the children enrolled in the preschool. As a parent, you will be responsible for:
1) Holding a family job
Each family will be assigned a job for the year to help with the running of the school. Some example of the available jobs are: Laundry, Duty-day Scheduler or Outside Maintenance. This could also mean taking a leadership role on the Executive committee. We do our best to match families up with jobs that are a good fit for each family.
2) Completing monthly duty days (only for ppp classes)
This is a chance to join your little one in their class. Duty parents help with setup and clean-up, assist with transitions, and supervise & support the children in their play and learning. You are responsible for bringing part of the snack on your duty days. Each family will typically be responsible for 1-4 duty shifts per month. (Additional duty days will be assigned for multiple children.)
3) attending monthly parent education meetings and general meeting
There are 5 general meetings & parent education talks per year, which at least one (1) family representative must attend. This is a great opportunity to listen to high caliber speakers who talk on a variety of parenting and child development topics. The general meetings cover general business of the school and are mandatory for all families, parent education talks are mandatory for duty persons. These are held on the first Tuesday of the month and begin at 6PM.
4) orientation hours and parent workshops
This involves participation in an evening orientation session in September and a parent observation day prior to your first duty day. Additionally, parent workshops are held in January upon return from winter break.
5) inside deep clean
Each family must volunteer for inside clean per class they are enrolled in (additional deep clean days will be assigned for multiple children). This involves a toy wash and a deep clean of the preschool. These are held on the first Saturday of every month.

This parent involvement class is held outdoors using the natural surroundings as our classroom. This class has a maximum of 8 students and is led by Teacher Lori. Students will venture into the surrounding forest and neighbourhoods, learning about nature, community, road safety and many other important lessons. We use our imaginations to take us on all kinds of adventures!
